Question: Please advise whether or not it is permissible to have a "bridal shower" for a young girl about to marry. Please note that contrary to the Kafirs, there will be no music, etc. Just immediate female relatives will be in this intended gathering.

Answer: If this gathering is free from unlawful and un Islamic things, then it would be permissible to have it. Among the prohibited things in such gatherings, is to refrain from exposing one's concealable parts of the body to others, even if they are females. Girls must also refrain from indulging in such talks that are not permissible in Islam. Further to this, it is also essential that Muslims stay away from emulating the customs of the non Muslims in their practices and behaviour.
