Question: Can an individual select whom he wants to give Zakaat to, or is it to be given at the mosque for the leaders to distribute?

Answer: An individual can give his/her zakaah to anyone who falls into the category of lawful recipients. However, one would not be allowed to give zakaah to one's parents or children. Giving it to the Mosque or an organization is not necessary.
