Questions and Answers
Muslim girl furthering studies abroad

Question: Is it permissible for a muslim girl to travel abroad to further her islamic studies, due to the fact that she doesn't have a mahram, although she would be taken to such a place with her mahram and after ensuring her safety, she would be left within the boundaries of the madarassa?

Answer: Yes, it is permissible for a Muslim girl to further her Islamic studies abroad, as long as everything has been put in place to ensure that she is looked after by responsible females who have been made her guardian. In terms of travelling, she is accompanied by a mahram and then placed in an environment where she continues to be supervised by adult females, who have been made in charge of her. In this environment, she is not allowed to freely travel or mix with ghair mahram, and she is always within the boundaries of the girl's madrassa. Taking these into consideration, it will be permissible for a girl to venture into such Islamic studies.
