Question: When we perform salaat behind the imam, our intention is to follow him. In the case where the Imam follows strict Hanafi procedures and some of his followers perform "Rafi ad dain" etc., is the salaat of these individuals valid or is this conduct accepted by shariah?

Answer: In the case mentioned, the salaah of those who practice 'the regular lifting of the hands' will be valid. This action has also been narrated from the Prophet (s.a.s) and hence, it will be accepted. The difference of opinions among the Muhadithin and the Fuqaha in this regard is only one of preference and not one of permissibility / prohibition.
