Brother teaching sisters behind a screen
Question: We have a screen at the mosque and at present there is a brother interested in conducting sunday classes, teaching the sisters (Arabic from scratch) and other islamic teachings. What is the ruling of the brother teaching the females and is it permissible for the screen to be removed for the teachings?
Answer: Maintaining the screen is far better than removing it. It protects both the brother and the sisters. The law of hijab has a great amount of wisdom and benefits in it and the avoidance of open mixing and interaction between the sexes is part of the laws of hijab and modesty in Islam.
The best system is to have a female teacher. Probably the male teacher can train his wife (if he is married) to teach the sisters. If this is not possible, then the brother can teach the sisters, however the screen should not be removed.
And Allah knows best.
