Questions and Answers
Watching movies and listening to music

Question: Is the watching of movies (for example, Indian movies) and listening to music of any kind permissible in islam? If this is impermissible, please state why.

Answer: Watching of movies is totally haram in Islam and also the act of listening to music.

With respect to the movies, these contain such contents that are all unlawful for a Muslim to view. Looking at the awrah of a male or female is not permissible in Islam, and this is disclosed to a large extent in movies. Witnessing the acts of caressing and other similar actions that are normally the behavior of married couples are also strictly haram (unlawful) to view. Besides these, there are many other factors that bring about the prohibition of watching movies.

Music is also haram (unlawful) and the listening of it has been clearly prohibited in the Shariah of Islam.
