Question: Why are there different number of units of prayer for each prayer time, why are there different prayer times and how did this come about?

Answer: The prayer and salaah which a Muslim observes are all based on the commands of Allah. The timings are also fixed by Him. These timings are fixed at such hours, that if a Muslim fulfills his duty by observing the salaah at its proper times, it will be said that he has worshipped his creator throughout the day and the night.
