Men wearing different metals
Question: Can muslim men wear metals such as titanium, platinum, tungsten or even white gold?
Answer: It is not permissible for men to wear metals such as titanium, platinum, tungsten and white gold. The prohibition of wearing such metals include necklaces (chains), hand-bands and rings. As for wearing such metals as chains around the neck and hand-bands, it is clearly stated in Al Hidaya, the famous book of Islamic Jurisprudence. 'It is not permissible to use ornaments made of gold or silver except a ring.' (Al Hidaya).
The above statement makes it clear that the only ornament that a male can use is that of a silver ring. Similarly, in Jami As Sagheer, it is mentioned 'And one must not take a ring except that of silver' (Al Jami-As-Sagheer; Nasbur Rayah Vol. 4 Pg. 530).
It is also recorded in a tradition which is narrated by Abdullah bin Buraidah from his father that, 'A man came to the Prophet (s.a.s) and on him was a ring made of iron. The Prophet (s.a.s.) said (to him), 'Why do I see that the ornament of the people of the fire is on you'. Then he came at another time and on him was a ring made of brass. The Prophet (S.A.S) said to him, 'Why do I smell the scent of idols coming from you'. The man then said , 'O Prophet of Allah! from what should I make a ring?' The Prophet (s.a.s) said, 'From silver'. (Abu Dawood, Tirmizi, Nasai).
Some scholars have stated that it is permissible to wear a ring which is made of Carnellian or jasper. (Al Fathul Qader Vol. 8 Pg. 458).
