Difference between kosher and halaal

Question: What is the difference between kosher and halaal?

Answer: Kosher refers to that which is ritually fit for use according to Jewish law. Halal in food and drink refers to that which is lawful for consumption according to Islamic law. In order that a thing be considered kosher for the Jews, it must fulfill certain requirements and in order for a thing to be considered halal, it must fulfill certain requirements. Some of these requirements may be similar in both kosher and halal and others may be different. However, while this may be the case, both are totally different and distinct from each other and while an item may be considered kosher for the Jews, it may not be halal for Muslims.

Muslims should therefore abstain from consuming such products which are deemed to be kosher without verifying its status as halal.
